This package was developed by a member of the Association of
Shareware Professionals. Capital Gainz may only be distributed as
a complete package, and only the shareware (unregistered) version
may be distributed. Your efforts to put shareware into the hands
of potential users is greatly appreciated.
If you are an ASP approved vendor or BBS, then you are
automatically authorized to carry Capital Gainz in your shareware
library. All other vendors and BBS must receive either electronic
or written mail authorization to include Capital Gainz.
Capital Gainz can not be bundled and distributed with any other
programs. It must be distributed on its own diskette(s). Note
that this restriction prevents the inclusion of Capital Gainz on
'mega-disks' or other multi-program disks. Exceptions to this
will be made for CD-ROM distributions, but you must receive
electronic or written authorization.
Explicit or implicit authorization to distribute Capital Gainz
gives you permission to charge a distribution fee. However, this
fee may not exceed $6.00 per disk, or $10.00 total, for the
complete Capital Gainz shareware distribution package.
This document includes several descriptions: one line, 128
characters, 512 characters, and one page. Please use the one most
appropriate for your catalog.

Update:
-------
This revision contains some bug fixes, performance enhancements,
and many new features. A list of changes and new features can be
found in HISTORY.DOC. This release requires a data file upgrade
from previous versions.
Files:
------
Registered and shareware distributions of Capital Gainz are
composed of the following files: README.DOC, INSTALL.COM,
CPGNZP.zzz, and CPGNZD.zzz. 'zzz' indicates the compression
method used, such as ZIP. CPGNZP.zzz is the program archive, and
CPGNZD.zzz is the documentation archive. In addition, the
shareware version includes this file, VENDOR.DOC.
If the archives are self-extracting ('zzz' is EXE), then no
unarchiver needs to be available. Otherwise, the INSTALL program
will look for the following unarchivers on the DOS PATH: PKUNZIP
or UNZIP for .ZIP archives, ARCE or ARC-E for .ARC archives, and
LHA for .LZH archives. Although the actual archive method is
flexible, the base name of the archives - CPGNZP and CPGNZD -
can't be changed. Also, the contents of these archives can't be
changed. If the base names or contents of these archives are
modified, INSTALL will fail.
All files, including VENDOR.DOC, must be included unmodified in
any distribution. You can: (1) Put README.DOC, VENDOR.DOC,
INSTALL.COM, CPGNZP.zzz, and CPGNZD.zzz on one or more disks. For
instance, you could put README.DOC, VENDOR.DOC, INSTALL.COM, and
CPGNZP.zzz on one disk, and CPGNZD.zzz on a second disk. (This is
how we distribute Capital Gainz.) (2) Archive README.DOC,
VENDOR.DOC, INSTALL.COM, CPGNZP.zzz, and CPGNZD.zzz into a single
archive, CPGNZ.zzz. (4) Archive README.DOC, VENDOR.DOC,
INSTALL.COM, and CPGNZP.zzz into CPGNZ.zzz, thus reducing the
distribution to two files. Only use (2) or (3) for knowledgeable
customers/users.

Hardware/Software Requirements:
-------------------------------
Computer: any 80x86 clone can run Capital Gainz.
Monitor: any type of monitor will do. No graphics card is
required, as Capital Gainz only uses the extended ASCII character
set. On color monitors, users can customize the screen colors.
Disk Drive: Capital Gainz will run on a high-density disk drive
(1.2MB or 1.44MB), but a hard drive is strongly recommended.
Without the documentation files, the programs and approximately
several years worth of investment data require about 700KB.
Printer: a printer is not required, but is recommended. Reports
can be generated with the extended ASCII character set, or the
user can specify to only use non-line drawing characters.
Operating System: DOS 3.0 or later is suggested, as some problems
have been reported with earlier versions.

Long Description:
-----------------
Capital Gainz is a portfolio manager for investors. It's ideal
for those investors following a 'dollar-cost averaging' strategy
with stocks and mutual funds. Features include: maintains records
of purchases and sales of securities, as well as dividends and
capital gains distributions; calculates gain/loss and total
return for securities; purchase, sale, or distribution
information can be printed or sent to a file, and the information
can be for one or more securities and for all or a range of
dates; can automatically reinvest distributions; can perform
stock splits; periodic updates of security prices supported;
allows grouped sales of multiple purchases using a variety of
methods - first-in/first-out (FIFO), last-in/first-out (LIFO),
maximum gain, maximum loss, specific shares, single category
average, or double category average.
In addition, recently added options allow you to generate
Schedule B and Schedule D tax forms, customize the screen colors,
maintain price histories for securities, and generate portfolio
allocation summaries.
Capital Gainz should prove especially valuable to investors who
make regular, periodic purchases of mutual funds or stocks in
dividend reinvestment plans. When these investors decide to
dispose of shares, most portfolio management software forces them
to tediously select and sell individual purchases while manually
calculating share count. Not so with Capital Gainz! Simply choose
a selling method, and Capital Gainz will determine the
appropriate shares, then display them in a table for
confirmation. You can even let Capital Gainz decide which shares
to sell to maximize your gain (or even to maximize your loss) -
all you have to do is print out the generated table and instruct
the agent responsible to dispose of the indicated shares.
Since Capital Gainz calculates total return, income oriented
investors can determine performance including dividends. Most
other portfolio managers simply record distributions, but Capital
Gainz also factors distributions into calculated performance
results.
Capital Gainz provides a powerful and flexible alternative to
commercially available investment software - at a much lower
cost!
Registration: $29 + $3.50 shipping and handling. Add $10 for a
printed users manual. ASP Shareware.
